I often hear with the clients that I work with at AToN Center that they question “Am I really ready to give up on drugs and alcohol?”
I first want to validate that there is something inside of them that is still in a questioning and contemplative place and this deserves to be respected. However, I have also seen that this can result in a person putting emotions and cravings ahead of reason and logic.
Some people have found that there was a moment when they realized they were ready but other times readiness or dedication comes after getting a few weeks or months of sobriety under their belt. I recently reflected and advised someone that “your head and heart appear to be following your feet.” This means that if you continue to put your self in places of healing and recovery that the “readiness” is likely to follow.
